Official thanks to the Hoon Hay Community Centre

Today marks an historic moment for our Hoon Hay Community.

For nearly 50 years the building at 90 Hoon Hay Road was run by dedicated and passionate local volunteers as the Hoon Hay Children’s Library.    It houses the memories of more than two generation of locals, and continued to stay open until original librarians June Hulme and Merle Lepper decided in their 80’s it was time to close the doors.   The council had plans to shift the building to the sale of assets team until a group of local residents rallied around and gathered momentum from the community to keep it in the community.  In January 2016 an interim building committee was formed and worked extremely hard behind the scenes to take on a lease from the City Council.   At the same time local residents formed the Hoon Hay Community Association with a vision of Leading Hoon Hay into the future.

Today surrounded by  councillors, local community board members and staff, neighbours, our committe (Hoon Hay Community Association) the librarians who were there when it closed as a library, the Hoon Hay Community Centre Committee,  chaired by Doug Rankin, officially opened 90 Hoon Hay Road as the Hoon Hay community centre.

The Hoon Hay Community Association wish to formally congratulate and thank the Hoon Hay Community Cente Committee for all their hard work, passion and dedication.

We look forward to working with you for a vibrant space for our community.
